The Limit-Indicating Particles

The function of "kara" is to set off a word or words that indicate
a limit in time or space.

The function of "made" is to set off a word or words that indicate
a limit up to and including when or where an action takes place.

Examples:

Kyou no kaigi wa ichiji kara sanji made desu.
today meeting one o'clock three o'clock is
Today's meeting is (from) one o'clock (to) three o'clock.

Kare wa Toukyou kara Kyouto made kuruma de ikimasita.
he Tokyo Kyoto car went
He went (from) Tokyo (to) Kyoto (by) car.

made is often combined with ni, as in:

Sanji ni denwa site kudasai.
three o'clock telephone please
Please phone (at) three o'clock.

Sanji made ni denwa site kudasai.
three o'clock telephone please
Please phone (by) three o'clock.

Another function of kara is after the te-form of a verb in a
clause to indicate specifically that the action of the following
clause occurs immediately after the action of the first clause:

Asagohan o tabete kara dekakemasita.
breakfast eating left
(I) left (after) eating breakfast.

Special Note:

Like the particle ga and the word ga (see the entry on ga ), there is a
word pronounced
kara that has a meaning of "because" or "since (something
is the case)". Again, some textbooks treat this word as the particle
kara, but since its usage is entirely different from that of the
particle, it is best to consider it as a word.

Ikanai kara, yoroshiku tutaete kudasai.
not go since regards convey please
Since (I) (am) not go(ing), please convey (my) regards.
