Metalworking Pages
Introduction
I first got interested in metal working when I purchased a Taig lathe about three years ago. I bought it on a whim not really thinking that such a small lathe would be of a lot of use, but might be fun to try out. Up until that point the only experience I had with metalworking were things I needed to do as part of my cabinetmaking business, usually tapping a few screw holes or using the drill press to drill out hinges. Little did I know at the time that I would not only be able to utilize the lathe for many things, but it would also turn into a major hobby and also add a new dimension to what I could do on the cabinetmaking side.
After having the lathe for about six months I was hooked, and ordered the Taig extended CNC mill. Over the last two and a half years I have expanded my knowledge of metalworking in general and now feel quite comfortable operating these machines. I am not a metalworking machinist, I'm still learning, but I hope that some of the things I have learned over the past while may be of use to others also starting out in this field.
